This Privacy Policy outlines how I, Abigail Hobden, collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in the course of providing maths tutoring services. Your privacy is important to me, and I am committed to complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

I may collect and store the following information:

  • Student’s full name

  • Parent/guardian name (if applicable)

  • Contact details (email address, phone number)

  • Educational level and subject(s) studied

  • Details relevant to tutoring sessions (e.g., availability, areas of difficulty, exam board)

  • Notes made during or after sessions regarding student progress

  • Payment details (records of payments made – not card/bank details)

  • Recordings of tutoring sessions if agreed in advance (see Section 6)


3. Why I Collect This Data

I use this data in order to:

  • Provide personalised tutoring services

  • Schedule sessions and communicate with students/parents

  • Track student progress

  • Issue invoices and keep payment records

  • Maintain a record of services for safeguarding and legal obligations


4. Legal Basis for Processing

The lawful bases I rely on for processing this information are:

  • Contract – to provide the tutoring service requested

  • Legitimate Interest – to maintain records and monitor progress

  • Legal Obligation – to retain financial records for HMRC


5. How Long I Keep Your Data

I will retain personal data for one year after the student’s final tutoring session. After this time, your data will be securely deleted unless required for legal reasons.


6. Recording of Sessions

In some cases, if a session takes place where no other adult is present, audio and video recordings may be made for safeguarding purposes. This will be communicated in advance and stored securely. These recordings will only be accessed if a concern is raised and will be deleted after one year.


7. Data Sharing

I do not share your data with any third parties unless legally required to do so, or with your explicit consent.


8. Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data I hold about you

  • Request correction of inaccurate data

  • Request deletion of your data

  • Object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances

  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
